Welcome Hazel & Bailey

Born on February 2nd 2019 two baby sheep twin-girls came into this world. Within three weeks thereafter though, they found themselves advertised on Craigslist to be picked up and slaughtered. When we saw this, we couldn’t just stand by. A message was sent to the seller and arrangements were quickly made. Three weeks after their birth the sweet girls were on their way to the sanctuary. Sadly, we could not convince the seller to let us purchase their mother as well.

The girls cried bitterly all through their first night after having to be ripped away from their beloved mom. The crying only seized the following day because their voices were so raspy they couldn’t cry anymore. Then we were off to learning how to sit on somebody’s lap and learn to drink from a bottle. Not a small feat for a little creature who is still terrified of human contact.

The second day also involved a small adventure of heading outdoors for the first time ever in their young lives. What?! What is this, Sunshine? Grass? Despite being unsure of it, the girls seemed to have great enjoyment from checking out Good Acres office’s backyard.

Did you know? Not all sheep produce wool. Hazel and Bailey belong to the class of ‘hair sheep’. Nowadays, many sheep breeders have realized that there is not much money in raising sheep for wool. Hence they raise hair sheep for slaughter to yield better profits. Fortunately, these two twin girls will live a life in safety at Good Acres. In so doing, they will function as ambassadors for the plight of sheep in typical animal agriculture. They will delight visitors to the sanctuary with their already emerging colorful personalities and pure sweetness.
