Children with Disabilities
Good Acres is now supporting kids and teens with disabilities. Affected children and their families or caretakers can visit the sanctuary for free by appointment to share some love with our rescued animals. Especially our handicapped animals such as blind donkey ‘Pearl’, donkey Rosie with her severely deformed legs, and little goat boy ‘Kevin’ who wears a prosthetic leg can offer affection and inspiration to those dealing with disabilities. The joy and love of life with which these animals are approaching life despite their own physical challenges is heartwarming and inspiring.
We are proud to be offering this kind of unique support to disabled kids completely free of charge. Though this program is still new, we have so far served children with down syndrome, Asperger’s syndrome, alcohol fetal syndrome, and various orthopedic issues. The children have all been completely enchanted with the animals and keep on talking about their visit to the sanctuary even months later. If you think your child could use some uplifting moments among furry friends, come visit us.
The sanctuary farm is easily navigated with wheelchairs or walkers since all of our driveways and walkways are graveled. A typical visit will last up to an hour but other timeframes may also be accommodated. If you are traveling to our area for this visit and require overnight accommodations, we will gladly refer you to some good quality hotels nearby.
