Horses’ Sleep Patterns

Did you know? Horses need to be able to lie down in order to go into deep sleep. They can only experience shallow sleep while standing. However, their intense need for safety will not allow them to lie down unless they feel completely safe in their environment. Horses also have dreams. When they do they may flick their lips and twitch their legs as if they are galloping. Here is our sanctuary crew of seven taking a group snooze with the herd boss ‘Marcus’ watching over everybody to keep them save. Life is Good at the Sanctuary!

On a sunny cool morning the group takes a snooze as Marcus remains standing to watch over everybody.
